Senior Project Proposal
Proposed Topic in the form of an Essential Question:
Why does most of society look down upon people with mental health issues?
Rationale for Choice
What about this topic appeals to you? Why did you choose it?
This topic appeals to me because my mother works at a mental health clinic and the children and adults there, most of the time, greet me with a friendly smile. But when people hear of someone with mental health issues, they usually think of the time when the kids and adults are going threw a hard time and not in their nice and sweet sense of mind. I chose this topic because some people are afraid and look at people with mental health differently, but since I have been helping out at my mom's work since I was a kid, I've learned that people with mental health are not as different as some people make it may seem.
What do you already know about this subject?
I know that anything small can traumatize a child to have mental health issues, even when they grow into adulthood.
What are you hoping to learn about the subject?
I hope to learn more about mental health issues, and what triggers the mood swings that come without warning.
What are you most interested in regarding the topic?
I am mostly interested with they way the mind works with someone who has a mental health issue/issues.
What potential risks or challenges do you foresee for your project?
The potential risks that I hope do not come in the way of my project are not finding enough information, and that I would not be able to change a couple of people's minds about the way they think about children and adults with mental health issues.
I don't think that finding resources will be an issue here. There is so much research when it comes to mental health issues, that I'm certain you will have plenty to read through. You might want to watch a few episodes of Glee. There is a character named Becky that might help you see how media portrays those with mental health issues.
